Mountain View, CA—Revenues for high-brightness LEDs grew by a remarkable 108% to $11.2 billion in 2010, according to a new market report by the leading firm following the LED market, Strategies Unlimited.

Mountain View CA— The U.S. market has taken the lead in proving the viability of LED technology for outdoor lighting applications. Although China has more installations, it has become the first casualty of quality issues. 

A new survey from Lightwave of purchasers of optical transceivers and transponders reveals that only 27.5% of respondents either definitely won’t or probably won’t change suppliers for a given application. Lightwave’s 2010 Transceiver/Transponder Buyer Survey also describes the major criteria buyers use to select suppliers, which suppliers enjoy the most brand recognition, as well as how transceiver/transponder decision makers view the major module vendors.

Service robots, which are robots serving human needs beyond the factory floor, are playing an increasingly important role in many aspects of human life. These robots come in many designs and perform tasks that range from aerial surveillance, bomb disposal, farming, and warehouse logistics to teaching children and assisting the elderly.

The worldwide high-brightness (HB) LED market leaped from $5.6 billion in 2009 to $10.8 billion in 2010, a growth rate of 93%, according to Strategies Unlimited, the leading market research firm in LEDs. LCD monitor and TV backlights led the growth spurt, followed by mobile display applications. Ten companies accounted for more than 75% of the HB-LED market. Strategies Unlimited arrived at these figures after analyzing market demand as well as the supply-side activity of more than 40 HB-LED component suppliers.
