Tom Hausken Director, Components Practice B.S.E.E., Montana State University Ph.D., University of California (Santa Barbara) Dr. Hausken has over 25 years in the semiconductor and optoelectronics industries, spanning device and materials research, product development, laboratory management, and technology and market analysis. Joining the Strategies Unlimited staff in 1999, he specializes in studies in optical and electronic components, including active and passive components for optical networks, and image sensors. Previously, he was a coordinator for the U.S.-Japan Joint Optoelectronics Project with the Optoelectronics Industry Development Association (OIDA). He was also a technology policy analyst at the U.S. Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, in Washington D.C. There, he contributed to three reports on information technology and communications policy issues for congressional committees. His doctoral dissertation was on optical communication components. He has also held positions at Alcatel Alsthom Research and Texas Instruments on subjects ranging from optical components and electronic memory to displays and solar cells. |

Ella Shum Director, LED practice MBA from the Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania) B.Sc. Computing Science (Imperial College, London) Ella Shum heads the market research in all application segments of the LED industry at Strategies Unlimited. She is also conference chair for the Strategies in Light events in the US and China. Prior to joining Strategies Unlimited, Shum was General Partner at YEBY Associates, a consulting firm specialized in the LED industry. At YEBY, she was part of the initial phosphor sales team for Intematix and an early advisor to China’s SSL program. Shum was Managing Director of the R&D Lab at Emcore where she managed the development of TurboDisc reactors and epi research including LED technology. She was a marketing and sales executive for many years and she served as Vice President and Chief of Staff at BroadVision Inc. Shum received her MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and her B.Sc. in Computing Science from Imperial College, London. |

Vrinda Bhandarkar Vrinda Bhandarkar joined Strategies Unlimited in 2006 to track the emerging LED lighting markets. Since then, she has written authoritative industry reports on HB LEDs in Lighting, LED Lighting Luminaires/Fixtures and LED Replacement Lamps, LED Outdoor Area and Street Lighting, and LED Driver ICs.

Robert V. Steele Consultant, LED Practice B.S. Chemistry, M.I.T. Ph.D. Physical Chemistry, University of California (Berkeley) At Strategies Unlimited since 1982, Dr. Steele is responsible for optoelectronics studies and reports on such subjects as high-brightness LEDs, solid-state lighting, laser diodes, datacom transceivers, and advanced compound semiconductor materials. He is the chair of Strategies Unlimited's annual conference Strategies in Light on the high brightness LED industry. Previously he was also the editor of the Strategies Unlimited optoelectronics industry newsletter, The Light Source, and was a major contributor to 16 studies prepared for the Optoelectronics Industry Development Association's (OIDA) roadmap program. Dr. Steele writes regularly for industry publications on high-brightness LED markets and applications, and has been an invited speaker at several international conferences. As an internationally recognized expert in this subject has been interviewed and quoted by major publications, including Forbes, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Economist, among others. Dr. Steele has over 30 years of professional experience, and was previously employed at SRI International, Flow General, and United Technologies Corporation.
